Dr. Gallant Chan

Dr. Chan is currently the CEO and Principal Scientist of Gallant Biotechnology Limited. He previously served as Research Associate in the Division of Life Science and Center for Chinese Medicine at HKUST, and as Research Assistant Professor at HKUST Shenzhen Research Institute. He has strong enthusiasm for developing quality assurance standards for valuable Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and nutraceuticals. He received training in molecular biology during his undergraduate and Master of Philosophy studies.
He has been working on molecular authentication of TCM materials for over 15 years. During his studies at HKUST, Dr. Chan mastered cutting-edge quality control techniques, including the application of LC-MS/MS, microscopic identification, and various cell and drug analysis methods. His expertise lies in applying multi-angle quality testing approaches to specific research topics, a style fully demonstrated in his doctoral thesis on quality research of bird's nest.
After obtaining his PhD in 2013, Dr. Chan shifted his focus to cosmetic science and nutritional product development. Driven by the need to find new raw materials for product development, he became passionate about establishing high-throughput screening technologies for drug screening. Dr. Chan served as the editor of a special issue of the scientific journal eCAM. From 2013 to 2021, he participated in managing more than 10 government-funded projects and published 38 papers in international scientific journals and 28 patents.
